Sony Sensor Cleaning and Compatibility

Sony Overview

Dust-Aid provides both wet and dry solutions to clean the wide variety of Sony DSLR and mirrorless camera sensors. The Dust-Wand Kit is the wet solution for removing welded on dust and oils. Dust-Aid Platinum and the Dust-Aid Platinum Light Wand are the dry solutions for removing static held dust. What sets the Dust-Aid Platinum Light Wand apart from the Dust-Aid Platinum is that it has an LED light within the handle that lights up the entire wand. The added light makes it far easier to clean DSLR cameras with recessed sensors.

All three of Dust-Aid products are approved for sensor cleaning Sony’s APS-C and full frame sensor sizes. In addition, Dust-Aid has been tested on and approved for Sony’s sensor filter coatings.

To clean a dusty sensor, it’s first advised to use Dust-Aid’s dry method to remove static held dust. Choose the Dust-Aid Platinum Light Wand if your sensor is located deep within the camera. It will be far easier to sensor clean if the area you’re cleaning is lit by an LED. If your sensor filter is easily accessible, then it’s recommended to use either the Dust-Aid Platinum or the Dust-Aid Platinum Light Wand.

To clean welded on dust or oils from a sensor, it’s recommended to clean with the Dust-Wand Kit which is Dust-Aid’s wet method. There are three swab sizes included in the kit so no matter your sensor size, there will be a solution for your camera sensor. It also includes Dust-Aid’s Ultra Clean liquid, which is the purest sensor cleaning fluid on the market. Clean with confidence that there will be no residue left after wet cleaning.

It is not advised to use a bulb blower to try to remove dust from a sensor that is deep within a camera chamber. Doing so will most likely knock dust free from the camera chamber walls and could make your sensor dustier. Even if you hold the camera upside down so the chamber points to the floor, you will still be blowing air along side the chamber walls and directly onto the sensor filter. If the dust is statically charged, it could adhere to the sensor filter. It’s best to use methods that do not come in contact with the chamber walls and removes dust without disturbing other possible contaminants.
